Wenge (Millettia laurentii) is an African hardwood so dark and dense that it’s often used as a substitute for ebony. Its color is a deep, dark chocolate brown with almost black streaks and a very coarse, open grain. The wood naturally contains oils that make it resistant to moisture, rot, and insects – no additional sealing is needed beyond a light wax. This case pairs a 2mm wenge back with a heavy-duty TPU bumper that has oversized corner air cushions, offering military-grade drop protection (MIL-STD-810G). The bumper has deep, aggressive side grips and includes dust covers for the charging port and silent switch (tethered so they won’t get lost). The buttons are large, textured, and easy to press. The screen lip is raised 1.2mm, camera lip 1.0mm. Despite the ruggedness and dense wood, the case supports wireless charging (though we recommend a 15W+ charger for reliable performance). Wenge is very heavy and hard – the case weighs 42 grams, but that’s still less than many plastic rugged cases. The natural grain of wenge is so coarse that you can feel the ridges with your fingernail. Over time, wenge may lighten slightly to a dark brown but will remain very dark.
