Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) is a Central American rosewood that is one of the most colorful woods in existence. Its colors range from vivid orange and brick red to deep purple and jet black, often swirling together in dramatic, unpredictable patterns. The wood is naturally so dense and oily that it can be polished to a high gloss without any finish. For this case, we apply a thin ceramic coating that enhances the color depth and adds scratch resistance. Inside the wood, a ring of 16 magnets provides perfect MagSafe alignment. The TPU bumper is exceptionally slim (1mm on sides) and translucent, so the wood’s colorful edges are visible. The bumper offers drop protection up to 1.2 meters. The camera ring is raised 0.7mm and made of polished stainless steel. The screen lip is raised 0.6mm. Cocobolo is so hard that it’s difficult to work – each case takes three times longer to produce than a walnut case. Over time, exposure to UV light will cause cocobolo to darken to deeper reds and purples, eventually becoming a rich, dark mahogany color. The natural oils mean the wood is highly water-resistant. The case weighs 24 grams. Due to the natural oils, some people with sensitive skin may have a mild allergic reaction (rare). This case is for collectors and connoisseurs who want the most vibrant, colorful wood available, combined with MagSafe convenience.
