Corner air cushions handle 8-foot drops. Raised lips protect screen. The case is surprisingly not too heavy. The wood is very hard and scratch-resistant. Purpleheart (Peltogyne) is one of the most unique woods in the world. Freshly cut, it’s a muted brown, but within days of exposure to UV light, it turns a vibrant, intense purple. This case captures that color at its peak. The wood is incredibly dense and hard (Janka hardness over 2,500 lbf, harder than oak or maple). It’s naturally resistant to rot, insects, and impact. The purpleheart back is 1.8mm thick and bonded to a TPU frame with large corner air cushions that handle drops from up to 2.4 meters (8 feet). The TPU bumper has a rugged, tire-like tread pattern on the sides for maximum grip. The buttons are oversized and textured. The screen lip is raised 1.0mm, camera lip 0.9mm. Despite the dense wood, the case weighs only 34 grams – a testament to the TPU’s lightness. Over time, purpleheart will darken to a deep, rich eggplant purple-brown – some people love this aging, others prefer to slow it by keeping the case out of direct sunlight. The wood is finished with a UV-inhibiting clear coat that slows the color change but does not stop it entirely. The case supports wireless charging (slower speeds possible due to density; use a 15W+ charger). Purpleheart is so hard that it can be polished to a high gloss, but we’ve chosen a satin finish to emphasize the grain. Each case is unique in color intensity.
